DUDE SWEET . . .I'm 8 years Old!

Congrats to DUDESWEET and it's founder Note and his peeps for 8 years of fun fun fun . . . it's 8th bday was celebrated on Friday 18th, a night of unexpected cool breeze in Bkk at Club Culture in the old part of town.

For me, the night started off at Blue Velvet with the Bangkok FAshion Society's annual x mas bash. The theme this year was super heroes. It was kind of funny. I was catwoman/bunny rabbit/hooded villain of some sort. P Rong's all white gi joe get up was awesome, as was A's actual talking Deceptacon.

On Doy and I went to Ratchdamnoen to the new Club Culture near the Democracy Monument, I took the scenic route and we enjoyed the lights - to Dudesweet (I suppose the parties have become a bit of an institution after 8 years since it's very humble guerilla beginnings with Note djing from his cd's) . . . I felt like I was at a giant house party/club in the East End. BUT BETTER. Note was playing old tunes from the last eight years on the ground floor, Maft Sai and Chris Menist on teh 2nd with luk thung and funk, and the 3rd floor was some crazy heavy bands with body slammingand mosh pits. So fun!

I forgot to take a pic but there were even little "make-out" tents or what what supposed to be secret rest tents . . .very cheeky.

Here, pics probably speak louder than words . . .oh and as it was Dudesweet's 8th bday . . there were balloons and confetti!

I was guilty of throwing a few balloons down before the final countdown though I think Note asked for them for atmo though the culprit who throw the whole lot down was definitely not me and Doy. Hmmmm. I know that I saved a red balloon for Lee for a very long time, it was annoying that it popped though finally.

When it was time to go home, I was gutted. My phone was lost and found. Gene showed up in lace shorts. What a night!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DUDESWEET!!

Just Done It

Note (of Dudesweet) threw a party to help Haiti . . . at the party you buy a t-shirt in order to donate money . . . the entrance fee and beer money went to the Red Cross too.  They raised 50,000 not bad for a wednesday night out. . .Well done Note!

It was a really fun and I was with some of my favourite people, namingly my first mentor/guru Opas who I see once a year. . .  he taught me a lot of what I know and continues to do so. And Gene of course . . . what a happy night and for a cause.

Opas and I I-D moment
Oh, the music was also totally fantastic, if they put that kind of stuff on more often, I would go out more and actually dance.  We heart Tul for putting on the The Rapture, MJ, The Gossip etc.

Tul
A few nights later Diplo dj'ed at 808 too . . .that was fun, my new t-shirt came along again, but unlike the DJ Premier set a few months back, I can't sit through an hour and a half of hard electro even if hip hop is waiting at the end.

Nat and Wesley (aka Diplo)

Diplo or Wesley was a sweetheart and his manager, was his name Greg? Not sure but he looked a bit like Jesus . . .

So the place was rocking . . .I wonder when he will come back to Bkk again and next time for more than 10 hours. Thank you my darling Paulie for a pass. Tatler is letting me write an article about DJ's . . . so stayed tuned for that. :)

Dudesweet in an abandoned hospital

On Sunday night I embarked on a little adventure with some friends to the Dudesweet "party" at an abandoned hospital far far away.

abandoned hospital - spot the ambulances

It was actually a movie set where the lead characters would go to a Dudesweet party in an abandoned hospital, so Note, the founder of Dudesweet, threw a party, reminiscent of his parties about 5 years ago - underground guerilla style but this time it was a real party, but "fake" world.

party

Abandoned it was, an unfinished hospital wing. .. pretty cool except for the stifling heat. The Entourage (a couple of them) came to join too.
Nat, Vudi and friends

Note, is one of the best, most avant-garde and multi-talented graphic designers I have ever met. One of the godfathers of the Bangkok alternative scene.  The parties are a little hobby, in the day time he runs Slow Motion, his graphic design studio.  What he has done for the  alternative scene here is hard to describe - he did after all bring Elmgreen and Dragset (pre-Venice Biennale fame), did a party in a boxing rink, brought over dj's after dj's, film screenings in the park, you name it - he's done it and all for the love, not for the $. Mad respect for the guy.

Note and his megaphone

He has been nominated to represent Thailand in the HP version of Project Runway for graphic designers, so I certainly will be voting for Note.

Dude - sweeet.
